CDL schools in Jacksonville can help you prepare for a Class A or Class B license through classroom work and driving practice. Compare local programs, including public college and carrier training, then check the registered location and Florida testing steps.

CDL training in Jacksonville and nearby campuses
These schools advertise local adult training, with blank prices where a current tuition figure was not verified. The check line under each school names the FMCSA registry training types matched to its local location on October 27, 2026.
Classes start Mondays. The school publishes the West Adams Street address; TPR registers the training yard at 139 Eastport Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218-3905. Confirm where to report.
Weekday starts every Monday. TPR lists 5310 New Kings Rd, while the current campus page gives 5301 New Kings Road; verify the training address and evening calendar.
Carrier training requires a 12-month driving contract with Cypress Truck Lines. Minimum age 21; DOT physical and drug screening required. Review the agreement and repayment terms.
Nassau Center location. FSCJ announced a dedicated Nassau expansion in 2024; its older admissions packet describes some training at Cecil, so confirm the current meeting sites.
School describes a hot shot truck-and-trailer route. Ask which vehicle you must supply and which license restrictions apply; this differs from its full tractor-trailer course.
Florida distinguishes Class A combinations from Class B straight trucks and buses. Decide which vehicle you plan to drive, then review the required knowledge tests in FLHSMV's CDL guide.
2
Prepare documents and medical records
Review Florida's residency and driver license requirements. Most commercial driving requires a DOT medical examination; confirm the medical category and paperwork for your intended driving with the licensing office. See FMCSA's application steps.
3
Obtain your learner permit
Pass the knowledge tests required for your class and endorsements to obtain a commercial learner permit (CLP). With a CLP, road practice requires a qualified CDL holder beside you. Read FMCSA's permit explanation.
4
Complete the required driver training
First-time Class A and B applicants generally need theory and behind-the-wheel ELDT from registered providers. Check each provider's class and training types in the FMCSA registry and confirm completion was reported.
5
Pass all three skills tests
Hold your CLP for at least 14 days and complete the applicable ELDT before testing. The skills test covers vehicle inspection, basic controls and road driving; Florida issues the license. Review FMCSA's testing steps.
Jacksonville truck driver employment and wages
BLS reported 13,100 heavy and tractor-trailer truck driver jobs in the Jacksonville, FL metro area in May 2025. The median wage was $26.74 an hour, or $55,630 a year, for occupation 53-3032. See the BLS OEWS Jacksonville table and May 2025 area estimates.
That median includes workers at different experience levels and is not a starting-pay quote. It also does not describe every Class B or bus driving job. When comparing an employer's offer, ask how paid miles, loading time, waiting time and home time affect the work week. Use the occupation figures as context while reviewing the actual pay agreement.
CDL tuition and ways to pay
Fenix lists Class A tuition of $2,750 for automatic trucks or $3,750 for manual trucks, plus a $510 road test. Florida Truck Driving School posts $4,900 tuition for cash or financed payment. National Training publishes $7,995 tuition for its full Class A course and $2,495 for Class B; fees and outside expenses add to tuition. Get a current itemized agreement.
FSCJ's CDL page marks the certificate as not financial aid eligible, so do not assume Pell will pay. Ask CareerSource Northeast Florida about WIOA funding for an eligible program before starting. Veterans should verify the exact course through VA education benefits. Cypress advertises carrier-paid training; read its employment terms, pay conditions and any repayment obligation before accepting.
Florida lets applicants seek a CDL at 18, but drivers younger than 21 are restricted to intrastate operation. A school's admissions policy can be stricter: Cypress requires applicants to be at least 21. Review your age and intended driving with the school before paying. The state requirements are on FLHSMV's CDL page.
Can online ELDT replace truck driving practice?
You need the applicable training parts for your license class, including behind-the-wheel instruction. Online theory by itself does not provide range or road training. FMCSA explains that required ELDT must be completed before the skills test and that providers report completion electronically. Confirm which registered provider supplies each part before buying a course.
Is a one-week CDL course enough?
National Training publishes a one-week Class B course, but course length does not remove permit rules. You must still hold your CLP for at least 14 days before the skills test and complete the required ELDT. Check which steps must be finished before your first class. See FMCSA's testing requirements.
Why are some registry providers absent from the table?
The FMCSA search also returns employers, testing locations and providers under review. This comparison requires a local adult training offer and matched theory, range and road registration. At this check, Roadmaster's Jacksonville location listed Class A range and road training only. Municipal and school district records did not establish a current public course start.
Does FSCJ offer CDL training in Yulee?
FSCJ lists a commercial driving location at Nassau Center, and its expansion announcement describes a dedicated Nassau program. The college's older admissions packet describes some Nassau students traveling to Cecil for truck training. Confirm today's start date, classroom site and driving yard so you can plan transportation for the full course.
