Arrange CNA funding before paying a school

  1. 1

    Check the training school's approval

Match the school and address against the Florida Board of Nursing CNA list. Baptist Health Clinical School appears with Approved status.

  2. 2

    Request your written funding decision

Ask CareerSource Northeast Florida about an Individual Training Account before committing to a course. Awards depend on your eligibility, the program and available funds.

  3. 3

    Clarify any facility fee protection

If a nursing facility employs you or offers you work when training begins, review 42 CFR 483.152(c) with its training coordinator. Keep the offer and payment records.

  4. 4

    Complete Florida's screening and testing

Follow the Board's CNA application instructions for electronic fingerprints and testing through Prometric. Approved training completed within six months of applying changes which exam portions are required.

  5. 5

    Confirm your Florida CNA record

Use the Board's Verify a License link to check your certification record after approval. Keep funding paperwork separate from your exam and certification documents.

Nursing assistant employment and pay in Jacksonville

BLS May 2025 OEWS data report 7,960 nursing assistant jobs (31-1131) in the Jacksonville, FL metro area. The median wage was $18.15 an hour and $37,760 a year. These figures cover the occupation across employers; they do not describe pay while you attend class or a starting wage.

When you discuss an employer-funded seat, ask for the work wage and any paid class hours in writing. Compare the actual weekly hours with your childcare and travel costs. Jacksonville Trade Schools is an independent guide and does not hire or enroll students.

What employer funding covers, and what to confirm

Baptist Health publishes $600 tuition and a $745 total, including its application fee, books and lab supplies. Its page says LEAP funds will be used for current team members. Request a coverage decision before paying, including any remaining screening or testing charges.

For another possible route, CareerSource Northeast Florida reviews WIOA training assistance for eligible applicants. An award is not automatic. Ask which CNA course and expenses it will cover.

Federal nursing facility rules also protect certain aides from program charges. A facility cannot charge an aide employed by it, or holding its offer, when training begins, including required books and materials. This protection depends on the employment circumstances.

Questions to ask the person funding your CNA class

  • Is this funding open to new applicants or only current employees?
  • What is the next application window and confirmed class start?
  • Which tuition, exam, fingerprint and supply costs will you pay?
  • Will I receive wages during class or only while working?
  • Does the written agreement require continued employment?
  • What happens to the funding if I leave or cannot finish?
  • Which Board-approved school will provide my training?

How to check a school

Common questions

Can I get CNA funding without already working for Baptist Health?

You can ask CareerSource Northeast Florida about WIOA assistance instead. Its Individual Training Accounts support eligible training through approved providers, subject to available funding and individual review. Ask staff to confirm the exact CNA program and expenses before you register. A general funding inquiry does not reserve a class seat.

Do Florida CNA applicants have to attend a training program?

Not always. The Florida Board of Nursing lists examination routes for people who have a high school diploma or equivalent, or are at least 18. Background screening still applies. The Board also requires approved training after three unsuccessful exam attempts. A funding sponsor may set its own training requirements even when you meet an exam route.

Can a nursing facility reimburse training I already paid for?

Under 42 CFR 483.152(c), the State must provide for pro rata reimbursement when an aide who lacked employment or an offer during training is hired by, or receives an offer from, a covered facility within 12 months after completing training. Reimbursement relates to the period employed as an aide. Keep receipts and ask how the applicable reimbursement process works.

Does employer-paid CNA tuition mean I earn wages in class?

Treat tuition coverage and paid class time as separate questions. Baptist Health's Clinical School page identifies LEAP education funds for current team members. Ask the funding coordinator to specify paid hours, remaining charges and any continued-employment terms in writing before planning your budget around income during school.

Will I need the CNA skills test after approved training?

The Board's examination guidance says applicants who completed an approved program within six months of applying must pass only the written portion. Other examination applicants generally have written and skills-demonstration portions. Confirm your application route and required portions with Prometric before booking; tuition funding does not establish your exam eligibility.
